What is Topical Finasteride?

How Topical Finasteride Stops the Shrink

• If you have diffuse thinning all over your scalp from autoimmune conditions like alopecia areata.

From My Experience

In my practice, the single biggest predictor of success with topical finasteride isn’t age or stage of hair loss—it’s application accuracy. People apply it like shampoo, focusing on the hair, not the scalp.

You must part your hair in sections and massage the solution directly onto the skin in the thinning areas. The hair fiber itself doesn’t absorb it; the follicle in your scalp does. I see a 50% better response rate in patients who are meticulously taught this technique.

Also, don’t pair it with aggressive exfoliating scalp treatments on the same day. This can drastically increase absorption and the chance of side effects. Space out your scalp exfoliation and finasteride application by at least 24 hours to keep that skin barrier intact.
