Think of your hair follicle like a high-performance factory. A nutritional deficiency means the factory’s supply chain is broken. It can’t get the raw materials to operate properly, so production slows down and the quality of the product suffers. Most people miss this: your hair is often the first place a deficiency shows up, months before a blood test might flag it.

When nutrients are scarce, the follicle’s growth cycle gets disrupted. The active growth phase shortens, and more hairs are pushed into the resting and shedding phase prematurely. I see this when patients show me diffuse thinning all over their scalp, not just at the hairline or crown.
Think of it like a garden during a drought. The plants don’t die immediately, but they become weak, stunted, and stop producing new flowers. Your scalp’s “garden” reacts the same way to a lack of internal nourishment.
The Surprising Link Between Nutritional Deficiency and Hair Texture
Many clients come to me baffled because their hair has lost its curl pattern or natural wave. They blame products or hard water, but the root cause is often internal. Severe protein or iron deficiency can actually alter the hair’s structure as it grows.

Common Nutritional Deficiency Culprits in Hair Loss
