What is Hair Plopping?

Hair plopping is a hair drying technique that uses a soft fabric to gently absorb water and encourage natural curl patterns. It works by piling your damp, product-laden hair onto the fabric and letting it dry undisturbed. Most people miss this: it can actually reduce frizz better than many high-end serums by preventing cuticle disruption during drying.

Why Hair Plopping Defies Friction

Traditional towel drying roughs up your hair’s outer layer, called the cuticle. This friction creates the frizz we all fight. Plopping uses a smooth, absorbent fabric like a microfiber towel or an old cotton t-shirt to blot water away gently.

Think of your hair’s cuticle like a pinecone. Rough handling makes the scales pop open, but gentle pressure keeps them lying flat. I see far less breakage and split ends in my clients who switch to plopping from regular towels.

The Hair Plopping Porosity Puzzle
