Most people don’t realize that extensions can’t produce their own natural oils like your scalp does. This is why they often feel drier and require a different care routine than the hair growing from your head.

Why Extension Care Prevents the Domino Effect

Think of a single snag in your extensions like a loose thread on a sweater. If you pull it, the entire weave can start to unravel. Tangles form easily at the attachment points and can quickly travel up the hair shaft.

I see this domino effect constantly in clients who brush their hair from the top down. This pulls knots tighter and creates a matted mess that is painful to remove and often damages both the extensions and your natural hair.

The Shampoo Mistake That Clogs Extension Bonds

Your natural hair loves a good scalp massage, but your extension bonds do not. Vigorously scrubbing the roots forces shampoo residue directly into the adhesive tabs, clips, or micro-links.
