Each natural hair level has a specific endpoint color. Level 4 brown hair lifts to red, then orange, then gold before reaching pale yellow. Starting from a different level 1 black means watching for a completely different color sequence.

Common End-Point Detection Mistakes I See Daily

The biggest mistake is timing the process instead of watching the hair. I estimate 80% of at-home color mishaps happen because someone followed box instructions to the minute, ignoring what their hair was showing them.

Another critical error is applying heat evenly. A hot spot on one section of the head can accelerate processing, causing that area to hit its endpoint faster than others.
