What is Dew Point Method?

Dew Point Method is a personalized hair care strategy that uses the current dew point to guide product selection. It helps you choose products that prevent frizz and maintain moisture balance based on the amount of water vapor in the air.

Most people miss this: your hair doesn’t just react to humidity. It reacts to the specific temperature where that humidity condenses. This method prevents the internal moisture battle that causes bad hair days.

Why the Dew Point Method Defeats Frizz

Frizz happens when your hair absorbs too much moisture from humid air or loses it to dry air. The dew point tells you the exact air temperature where this moisture exchange goes wild.

Think of your hair’s cuticle like a window. The dew point tells you if that window will let moisture in, trap it inside, or let it escape. I see clients conquer frizz when they finally match their products to this number.

The Dew Point Method and Your Hair’s Porosity

Your hair’s porosity—its ability to absorb moisture—is the other half of this equation. Low porosity hair has a tightly bound cuticle layer that resists water. High porosity hair has gaps and holes that soak it up too quickly.

Think of it like a sponge. A dense sponge (low porosity) repels water. A worn-out sponge (high porosity) holds too much. The dew point method tells each sponge how to behave in the weather.

I find that 80% of my clients with high porosity hair use products that are too heavy. They need lighter formulas in high dew points to avoid puffiness.

Your Dew Point Product Guide

Low dew points (below 30°F / -1°C) mean dry air. Your hair needs humectants like glycerin to pull moisture from the air and hold it close to the shaft. Creams and butters create a protective seal.

High dew points (above 60°F / 15°C) mean muggy air. Avoid humectants that will over-hydrate your hair. Use anti-humidity sprays and light serums that block excess moisture without buildup.

Never combine heavy oils with high dew points. This causes extreme swelling and breakage in my clinic. The hair shaft absorbs water, expands, and is then weighed down, leading to snapage.
