Detergent compatibility is a hair care principle that ensures your shampoo and conditioner work together without causing buildup or damage. It means your cleansing and conditioning products have formulas that don’t fight each other on your hair strands.

Most people miss this: Using a strong, deep-cleansing shampoo right before a light, protein-free conditioner can leave your hair feeling dry and tangled. The shampoo strips everything away, and the weak conditioner can’t put back what you need. I see this mismatch cause breakage in my clinic all the time.

Why Detergent Compatibility Causes Sudden Frizz

Incompatible products create a battle on your hair’s surface, called the cuticle. Think of your cuticle like shingles on a roof. A harsh shampoo can lift these shingles open to clean.

From My Experience
