Most people don’t realize that a single square centimeter of a full head of hair naturally holds between 80-120 individual follicular units. A common misconception I see is patients expecting a transplant to hit that upper number, which is often not possible without risking damage to existing hair or depleting the donor supply.

Why Density Dictates Your Final Look

Think of density like the thread count in a high-quality fabric. A higher thread count creates a smoother, fuller, and more luxurious material. Similarly, a higher graft density creates a more seamless and undetectable head of hair.

Your scalp skin must have enough blood supply to support each newly implanted graft. I always assess scalp laxity and blood flow during consultations, as these are the hidden factors that can limit how densely we can safely plant.

The Realistic Density Timeline

New growth typically begins around the 3-4 month mark. However, the density you see then is only a fraction of the final result. True density and full maturation of the hair take a full 12 to 18 months to develop completely. Patience is absolutely key.
