This happens because the hair’s spiral structure tightens as it loses moisture. Most people don’t realize that shrinkage is actually a key sign of healthy, well-hydrated curls with strong elasticity.

Why Curly Hair Defies Gravity

Your hair’s shape comes from its follicle. Curly hair grows from an oval-shaped follicle, which forces the strand to grow in a curved pattern. Think of your hair strand like a Slinky toy; it can stretch out long or compress into a tight coil.
