From My Experience

The most overlooked factor is the heat-up and cool-down time. Clients often wrap hair around a still-heating iron, which cooks the strand unevenly.

Wait for the iron to reach its full temperature. Then, after forming the curl, hold it for a few seconds and let it cool completely before brushing it out.

This cool-down sets the shape. Disturbing the curl before it’s cool is why many people feel their style doesn’t last. I also see better results on second-day hair that has some natural oil as a built-in buffer.
