What is Compression Strength?

Compression Strength is a hair property that measures how much squishing force your strands can handle before permanently deforming. Think of it like a spring’s resistance to being crushed flat. Most people miss this: Healthy hair rebounds after pressure, but compromised strands collapse like a cardboard box in rain.

This resilience comes from your hair’s inner core structure. When compression strength weakens, strands lose their bounce-back ability permanently.

When Compression Strength Fails During Styling

I see this when clients sleep on wet braids or use heavy clips. Your hair cortex acts like bubble wrap – once popped, it can’t reinflate. Heat tools accelerate this damage by making proteins brittle.

Compression Strength’s Hidden Climate Enemy

Humidity attacks compression strength by swelling hair shafts unevenly. Think of a wooden door that swells in summer heat and won’t close properly. Each humidity cycle weakens internal bonds until strands stay flattened.
