What is Capillary Action?

Capillary Action is the upward movement of liquids through tiny tubes in your hair that pulls moisture upward like a straw. Think of your hair strands as microscopic sponges soaking water from roots to ends. Most people don’t realize this happens faster than gravity pulls water downward – that’s why wet hair drips from tips first.

It relies on adhesion between water molecules and your hair’s inner structure. This is why hydration spreads evenly through strands when you shampoo. Surprisingly, curly hair experiences stronger capillary action than straight hair due to its twisted pathways.

How Capillary Action Quenches Your Hair’s Thirst

Your hair contains nano-sized channels between its protein layers that suck up water. When you wet your hair, these tubes pull moisture through the cortex (the inner core) via molecular attraction. Think of it like tree roots drawing groundwater upward against gravity.

When Capillary Action Turns Against You
