What is Bulk?

Bulk is the visual thickness and density of hair that creates the appearance of fuller hair. It comes from your hair’s natural volume and how strands cluster together. Most miss this: Even people with fine hair can create impressive bulk by manipulating their cuticle layers and strand positioning.

Why Bulk Hides in Healthy Hair

Healthy cuticles lay flat and reflect light, making hair look denser. Think of them like tiles on a roof—when aligned, they create a solid surface. I see patients with high porosity lose bulk because their raised cuticles scatter light unevenly.

Your natural oils also act as glue between strands. When sebum production drops, hairs separate and bulk vanishes. 70% of my clients fix this with lightweight humectants instead of heavy oils.

When Bulk Betrays Fine Strands
